Begin job ? Article Directory ? The Diesel Engine

The trend in fuel consumption continues to change and grow over the years. Petroleum was the leading fuel type in the UK for many years in the past. But today, many have turned to diesel for their vehicle?s energy source. This may perhaps be due to the creation of the modern and high technology vehicles which many refer to as ?green? cars by many top and famous automobile manufacturers. These cars are highly regarded to be fuel efficient and aim to help drivers and vehicle owners minimize fuel consumption. The aim of minimizing fuel consumption is promoted by these next generation vehicles as they only consume a lesser amount of fuel but can still run far and long distances.

Majority of these automobiles are run by a diesel engine. A diesel engine is often used by heavy duty vehicles as it provides greater mileage and does not take up much fuel.

If diesel engines are that efficient, why have people preferred petroleum during the past years?

Problems surrounding diesel engines go way back the 70s and 80s. Slow in acceleration due to its high compression ratio, only acquired by fuel injection, smoke producing, noisy, tends to vibrate, more expensive and not that readily available compared to its counterpart, are just a few of the said issues.

Today, the diesel engine has evolved and improved a lot. Many of the newly designed diesel engines have already put an end to the cons that surround it. Disadvantages like smoke, vibration and noise now rarely exist in many modern diesel vehicles. Even the cost of diesel fuel is also not on the rise. Due to these advancements, many have come to appreciate the benefits of using diesel engine automobiles.

To help improve diesel engine, one can have his car undergo a process called diesel remapping. When remapping, your car?s ECU or Electronic Control Unit ? containing the maps or management data gets reprogrammed. You need not confuse yourself with Diesel chip tuning as the outcome and aim of these processes are similar. The only difference would only lie on how the tuning chip process is applied. Chip tuning requires the manual opening of the ECU and taking-out of the chip while diesel remapping does otherwise. Either ways it still gets reprogrammed.

Reprogramming the diesel chip can help improve the efficiency, power and performance of your vehicle. This procedure can be done DIY style but it is very much advised to have a professional do it for you.
